SHELBURNE, N.S. – Coming on the heels of previously announced numerous closures to the emergency department of the Roseway Hospital in Shelburne from Aug. 1-7, the Nova Scotia Health Authority has announced more closures over the Aug. 8-12 time frame due to physician unavailability.
The following is the closure schedule for the emergency department at Roseway Hospital:
• Wednesday, Aug. 8, closed at 6 a.m., and reopening at 6 p.m. *NOTE: Originally it was only supposed to reopen at 8 pm but the doctor on the next shift is able to start that shift two hours earlier.
• Thursday, Aug. 9, closed at 6 a.m., and reopening Friday, Aug. 10, at 8 a.m.
• Saturday, Aug. 11, closed at 6 p.m., and reopening Sunday, Aug. 12 at 8 a.m.
• Sunday, Aug. 12: closed 8 am reopening 8 pm due to nurse availability
Those experiencing a medical emergency should always call 911, the health authority says. General health concerns can be directed to 811, where health advice and information are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week by registered nurses.
The Mental Health Crisis Line can also be reached 24/7 by calling 1-888-429-8167.
Last week following a schedule that includes 140 hours of closure during the Aug. 1-7 timeframe, Shelburne Mayor Karen Mattattel said those closures had gone “well beyond anything that is acceptable.”
