An annual tradition that is part of the Shelburne County Lobster Festival played itself out once again as the Great Lobsterman Challenge was held during the 2019 version of the festival.
This year saw Jeremy Goreham win the title following a series of lobster-industry theme related challenges. Goreham won the title in 2016 as well.
The event was held at the Sandy Wickens Memorial Arena in Barrington on Friday, June 8.
Kids have fun with tinker challenge
A new twist was added to the schedule of this year’s Shelburne County Lobster Festival.
One of the events was The Great Tinker Challenge – a youth version of The Great Lobsterman Challenge.
The activity drew its name from tinkers, which are what small lobsters are referred to.
Coiling rope, baiting a trap, banding ‘lobsters’ and getting their gear on were some of the activities.
Brody Symonds was named champion at the conclusion of the event, with JP Smith placing second and Cole Ross third.
While lobster fishermen aren’t allowed to keep tinkers while fishing, this event was lots of fun and will be a keeper for future festivals.
