BARRINGTON, N.S. – This was the 46th year for the Nova Scotia Marathon in Shelburne County, the biggest annual running event in the tri-county region.

There were 332 finishers over three distances in the July 24 event. Fifty-eight of them did the full marathon (42.195 kilometres), 127 ran the half marathon and 148 did the 10K.

Ian Holdway of Halifax led the runners in the full marathon, posting a time of 2:56:36 to top the male 40-49-year-old division. Colin Williams of Great Britain was next in 2:59:24, second best among 40-49 males, with Jacob Halloran of Guysborough third in 3:00:26. Halloran was the only under-19 runner in the full marathon.

Patricia Reddick of Fall River was the first woman and first among female runners aged 50-59 in 3:39:28. The top tri-county finishers were Joanne Burns-MacDonald and Bobby Lou Reardon. Burns-MacDonald was second among 20-to-39-year-old females in 3:45:57 and Reardon was second in the 50-59 female category in 3:54:55.

Halifax runners took the top three spots in the half marathon, led by Matt McNeil in 1:11:25. Colleen Wilson of Ancaster, Ontario, was the first woman in 1:23:30, 11th overall.

Bryan Hipson of Yarmouth was the first tri-county finisher, placing sixth overall and topping the male 50-59 category in 1:19:32.

Yarmouth’s Ian Cunningham was the 15th overall finisher and first among 40-to-49-year-old males in 1:29:23.

Matt Goodwin of Lower Woods Harbour was the first Shelburne County finisher in 1:37:03.

Mallory d’Entremont of Lower West Pubnico was the first female runner from Yarmouth County in 1:43:01 and Paige Stoddard of Shag Harbour was the first female finisher from Shelburne County, also in 1:43:01.

Angie Saulnier of Rockville, Yarmouth County, was the first female 40-to-49 finisher in 1:43:04.

10K

Jenna MacDonald of New Glasgow was the first to finish the 10K and took the title for 20-39-year-old women in 38:26 and Scott Symonds of Halifax was the first male finisher and second overall in 39:20.

Daniel Slack of Shelburne was the first tri-county finisher, placing fifth overall and leading the male 19-and-under division in 42:36.

Heather Baillie of Yarmouth was the third female finisher and sixth overall in 43:34.

Stuart Deveau of Sandford, Yarmouth County, was the first male 50-59 finisher and eighth overall in 44:02.

Courteney Doane of Barrington was the first Shelburne County female in 47:24.
