The book is about the Miss Ally and it’s five-member crew who were lost at sea in February 2013.
Casey will speak at the library in Lockeport on Tuesday, Aug. 8 at 7 p.m., the library in Barrington on Friday, Aug. 11 at 6 p.m. and at the Pubnico library on Thursday, Aug. 17 at 6 p.m.
“I'll be talking about the book and reading some sections. I'll also be taking questions and selling copies of the book,” Casey said.
The Sea Was In Their Blood was published by Nimbus Publishing and released earlier this year. In the book Casey tells the story of each crewmember onboard the boat – Katlin Nickerson, Joel Hopkins, Cole Nickerson, Tyson Townsend, and Billy Jack Hatfield – through interviews he conducted with family, friends and community members. He also outlines the search and rescue efforts, both by the Coast Guard joint rescue coordination team and the efforts of the community of Woods Harbour, and others, to try and bring their boys back home.
A portion of the royalties from the sale of the book are being donated to causes connected to the Miss Ally crew, including the Katlin Nickerson Memorial Bursary, the Joel Hopkins Memorial ATV Poker Rally, the Kids Fair Play Fund and the Cole Nickerson Memorial Hockey Tournament bursary.
