The Shelburne Regional High School Senior Boys are the new Division Three NSAAF provincial champions.

The Rebels took the provincial banner on Sunday with a 77-63 win over St. Mary's Bay. The win included a 52-point performance by Doug Poole.

“Every moment he got the ball, we knew he was heading for the net,” said Coach Andrew Blades. “It was awesome.”

Shelburne earned a place in the final game during a four-day tournament at the Annapolis West Education Centre in Annapolis Royal.

In its first game, the Rebels defeated Carrefour 83-57. Top scorers for Shelburne were Kris Buchanan 21, Doug Poole, 16 and Tyler Acker 12.

In the Semi-Final the Shelburne team won 82-52 over Hants North.

Coach Blades said the whole team stepped up its game.

“As soon as we got there, it became very serious for them,” he said. “They were focused on winning …we as coaches didn’t have to say a thing.”

The SRHS Senior Girls also were in provincial action on the weekend and came in fourth.

Coach John Huskilson say his team played strong in the first game of the tournament winning against Bridgewater by a 67-52 score.

The next two games did not go the Rebels’ way as they went on to play Number one ranked Middleton and lost by a 60-28 score. They also lost to New Germany in the battle for third place.
