The 1688 Professional Lobster Fishermen Association issued the following statement on Saturday, May 5:
The 1688 Professional Lobster Fishermen Association would like to apologize for any confusion that may have developed during the past few days.
The board of directors acknowledges that we are a new organization and have made some mistakes.
1688 wants to be the voice of the fishermen, and we are proud of what we have accomplished over the past four months.
The fishermen have shown to the buyers that when we stand united, we can influence the lobster industry.
Going forward, we feel that we can help our fishermen and our communities by doing things that will make a difference to the fishermen’s bottom line. Our plan includes negotiating for fair prices for our lobsters. We are working to get group insurance rates, fuel rebates, lower licensing fees and reduced WCB rates.

We want more money in the pockets of our fishermen.
Our communities need 1688 to represent the fishermen and to fight for them.
Do not let the events of the past 10 days frighten you. Changing things take time and cannot be done overnight, nor can it be completed in four months.
1688 is not going away. We are staying the course.
