The accident happened in a parking lot for an apartment building in Clark’s Harbour.  The driver of the vehicle backed out and did not realize that the child was struck by the vehicle and had left the parking lot and returned a short while later.

"The young fella arrived with his mother at the apartment building in their car," said Sgt. Bob Forbes of the Barrington RCMP.  "He walked away from his mother or ran away and got behind another vehicle that was backing up."

The driver of the vehicle did not see the small boy and had not even realized that his car had hit the boy until he arrived back from his errands.

The child suffered a serious head injury and was transported by EHS to Yarmouth Regional Hospital.

The victim was airlifted from Yarmouth to the IWK in Halifax where he remains in serious condition.

The Barrington RCMP is continuing the investigation into the collision but do not anticipate any charges being laid.
