SHELBURNE, NS – The Shelburne County Arena Association is celebrating the arrival of the new Zamboni for the Shelburne County Arena with a free public skate on Nov. 25.
The Association began fundraising efforts to purchase the piece of ice cleaning equipment last February when they realized “our 38-year old Zamboni was on its’ last legs,” said Emily Tipton, president of the Association.
“The community responded with incredible support for the arena and through a number of fundraising initiatives we were able to raise over $41,000 towards a new Zamboni,” Tipton said. “With this level of community support and the support of both the town and the municipality of Shelburne, as well as Nova Scotia Communities, Culture and Heritage, we were able to purchase a brand-new Zamboni this summer.”
Tipton said the association wants to thank all the volunteers who helped raise money and all the community members who contributed to the cause.
To celebrate, the association is hosting the Shelburne County Arena Zamboni Welcoming Celebration on Sunday, Nov. 25 from 12 to 1:30 p.m. which includes free public skating and hot chocolate.
