Passenger seriously injured in single vehicle accident in Shelburne County

SHELBURNE COUNTY, NS – A single vehicle accident that occurred on Jan. 28 on Highway 203 in Lower Ohio sent one person to hospital with serious injuries.

The collision occurred at 12:55 p.m. when the driver of a pickup truck lost control, crossed the centre line, and went into the ditch on the opposite side of the road, said Cpl. Jennifer Clarke, public information officer for the Nova Scotia RCMP. The truck was heading north at the time of the collision.

“The driver was not injured however the passenger sustained serious injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle,” said Cpl. Clarke. “He was transported to hospital in Yarmouth and from there was air lifted to Halifax for further medical treatment. The truck was heavily damaged.”

The Shelburne Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene.

The investigation is ongoing, said Cpl. Clarke.
