PHOTOS: Battle of the Atlantic remembered with Shelburne County ceremony

Shelburne County’s Royal Canadian Sea Cadets Corps (RCSCC) 180 Saxon and 327 Unicorn teamed up to pay tribute to the Battle of the Atlantic at a waterfront ceremony on Cape Sable Island on May 5.

A March on the Colors, reading the honour roll of the ships that went down during the World War II battle and laying wreaths were among the event highlights.

The Battle of the Atlantic was the longest military engagement of World War II, lasting from September 1939 to May 1945, claiming more than 4,600 Canadians who were enlisted with the Canadian Merchant Navy, the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal Canadian Air Force.
