The Town of Yarmouth is taking steps to make it easier for recreational cannabis companies to grow and process crops in the town.
Currently the town has regulations in place to permit medical marijuana facilities within selected industrial zones.
Mayor Pam Mood says several years ago changes in bylaws allowed the growing medicinal marijuana in the stated zones.
“The amendment we’re looking at would allow a developer to cultivate and process the exact same product, but for a larger, now legal, market. Because we had the word "medical" in our bylaw, it was restrictive, given the new legislative framework,” she said.
The amendment intends to maintain the growing and processing of plants in the town’s industrial zones, where housing is not permitted to establish, to allow for new business opportunities.
A public participation on the amendment will be held Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m
