SHELBURNE, N.S. – Senior girls athletes from Barrington, Shelburne and Middleton high schools took to the field at BMHS on April 21 for rugby 7s exhibition action in advance of the season start on April 28.
A one-hour clinic preceded the games, where BMHS was able to field two squads with 22 athletes involved in the sport this year. BMHS Coach Gerry Digout said the season opens on Saturday, April 28. Play starts at 12:30 p.m. at the Barrington high school field. Rugby is played in the rain, but if there is lightning play is halted.
Digout said while it will just be Barrington and Shelburne competing in district league play, they will be hosting visiting teams each Saturday during the short season, with games against visiting teams counting towards the league trophy. Avonview is scheduled to visit on April 28; Middleton, May 5; and Parkview, May 12.
The Day of Champions (best 2 out of 3) will be on May 19 at BMHS.
