Shelburne wins title, host Vikings place third in Steve Brewer basketball tourney

YARMOUTH -- In a championship game played a few hours earlier than planned due to inclement weather, Shelburne defeated Central Kings 100-74 to take the Steve Brewer Memorial Basketball Tournament Saturday in Yarmouth.

 Drew Jacklin led the winners with 39 points in the title game, with Daniel Slack named player of the game for Shelburne and teammate Cam Trevors getting his club’s hustle award.

The host Vikings then downed Drumlin Heights 92-65 in the consolation game. Yarmouth player-of-the-game Carter Cunningham led the Vikings with 23 points in this one and Will Devine got the hustle award for YCMHS. Dylan Spinney was player of the game for the Eagles, with Isaac Cull getting Drumlin’s hustle award. Grayson Smith led the Eagles with 19 points.

Drumlin Heights was not one of the initial tournament entries. They were filling the spot vacated by Horton, which opted not to make the trip because of weather considerations.

The host Vikings began the tournament Friday afternoon by losing to Central Kings 80-68.  Will Devine led YCMHS scorers with 15 points. Connor Trask was Yarmouth’s player of the game and teammate Dylan Smith received the team’s hustle award.

Yarmouth’s next scheduled game was an 11 a.m. start against Annapolis West Education Centre on Saturday, but the Valley team – which had lost to Central Kings 93-59 on Friday – withdrew from the tournament in anticipation of poor weather conditions Saturday.

Par-en-Bas filled in for AWEC, serving as the Vikings’ opponents in the second game of the tournament’s second day. Yarmouth won it 85-59. Ian Walker led the YCMHS team with 18 points and was his club’s player of the game. Brayden Moses received the hustle award. For Par-en-Bas, Denny d’Entremont scored 23 points and was his team’s hustle award winner. Andrew Thibeau was the Par-en-Bas player of the game.

In another Saturday contest, Drumlin Heights defeated Par-en-Bas 84-71. Grayson Smith led the Eagles in this one with 20 points. Nolan LeBlanc was Drumlin’s  player of the game and Ethan MacNeil got the team’s hustle award. For Par-en-Bas, Andrew Thibeau led the scoring with 28 points, Logan Fitzgerald was player of the game and Justin Atkinson got the hustle award.
