Southwest Nova Scotia high school teams on the ice this weekend 


YARMOUTH – The Valley High School Hockey League is entering its final month of regular league season play.

The season wraps up the final weekend of February before teams head into regionals in early March.

This weekend the Yarmouth Vikings will host the Barrington Barons on Friday evening at 7 p.m.. The Digby Mariners travel to Bridgetown on Friday. Barrington is on the road in Middleton on Saturday. Yarmouth hosts Par-en-Bas on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. Game admissions are $5.

Local teams were back on the ice last weekend after the league’s exam break.

On Friday, Jan. 29 the Barrington Barons shut out the visiting Par-en-Bas Sharks 3-0. Scoring for Barrington were Tanner Messenger, Jackie Nickerson and Cameron Atwood.

The Yarmouth Vikings lost 5-3 to the Bridgetown Trojans at home on Saturday, Jan. 30. The two teams had been tied 1-1 and 2-2 before Bridgetown widened the gap and went on to win 5-3. Scoring for the Vikings were Oliver Johansson, Cole Jacquard and Dylan LeBlanc.

At home on Sunday, Jan. 31, the Par-en-Bas Sharks were edged out by the Horton Griffins 5-4. PEB had scored the tie goal with 1:07 left in the game but Horton answered back with 52 seconds remaining for the winning goal. Scoring for PEB were Josh Boudreau, Brandon Goodwin, Miguel d’Eon and Jadon Pothier.

A game between the Park View Panthers and Digby Mariners didn’t go ahead as scheduled on Saturday.
