The Barrington Barons tied a best-of-three-games high school hockey league playoff series with a 4-2 win over the Yarmouth Vikings on Sunday, Feb. 2.

Barrington jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first period on goals from Kegin Penney (Cameron Atwood, Justyn Newell), Cameron Atwood (Kegin Penney, Justyn Newell) and Ethan Reashore (Skylar O’Connell, Wesley Nickerson). Yarmouth did get on the scoreboard near the end of the period with a goal scored by Luc Lacroix (Ray Jacquard, Brad Williams).

At 11:23 in the second period the Barons extended their lead to 4-1 on a goal by Jesper Andersson (Skylar O’Connell, Wesley Nickerson). Yarmouth put up another marker at 7:11 on a goal by Kirk Oakley (Jacob Surette).

Things fell off the rails towards the end of the second period as a line brawl erupted on the ice, leading to several game misconducts for players from both teams. Four players from the Yarmouth Vikings have received game suspensions ranging from three to six games and five Barrington players received suspensions ranging from two games to six games.

Fighting such as this is not a normal part of the game in high school hockey, nor is it tolerated. There had not been any previous incidents such as this this season involving the Yarmouth team and only one previous incident involving some Barrington players in a game played months ago with Par-en-Bas.

The teams were taken off the ice with about a 1:40 remaining in the second period. The remainder of the second period, and also the third period, resumed after a zamboni flood with no further incidents.

The third period saw no scoring in the game.

Dylan d’Entremont was in net for the win for the Barrington Barons. In net for the Vikings was Matais Nyyssonen.

Yarmouth had won Game 1 of the series with a 4-3 win.

The deciding Game 3 of the series will be played in Barrington on a future date not yet determined.
