Exit 26 construction work getting underway in October

SHELBURNE - Work is set to begin in October to improve traffic safety at Exit 26, says a spokesperson for the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal.
The tender for the intersection went out on Sept. 26, Brian Taylor said.
Work is expected to begin mid-October and will include several areas of improvement. There will be acceleration and de-acceleration lanes added to three sides of the intersection, as there is already a lane travelling east to west.
A large part of the improvements will be a full channelization of the intersection.
“When you pull off the Ohio Road, you will actually have a turning lane all to itself,” says Taylor.
The channelization will look similar to a project recently completed on Highway 103 in Port Motoun, near Broad River.
There will be a raised concrete island to safely direct traffic leaving the Ohio intersection on both sides of Highway 103.
“This will greatly improve safety,” says Taylor.
There have been numerous accidents at the intersection over the years.
