RCMP issues warning about phone scams in Barrington area

Published on February 6, 2017

BARRINGTON, N.S. – The RCMP have issued a warning about a phone scam which recently surfaced in the Barrington area.

Two people received calls asking for their credit card numbers or for remote access to their computer.
The RCMP would like to remind the public to be very careful when calls like this are received. If you have concerns, hang up and call your financial institution to verify the request. These calls can be very convincing - sometimes the callers know some of your personal information. There's nothing wrong with asking them to provide a contact number and telling them you want to call your bank first.
