The Barrington Sea Star Ice Dogs have a date with the Eastern Shore Mariners in the NSJRCHL Championship series by defeating the Clare Lions four games to two in the Western finals.
On Friday, March 12 in Clare the Ice Dogs got off to 2-0 first period lead and held on for a 3-1 victory and a 3-2 series lead. Jeff Goulden, Dwight Crowell and Dustin Goreham each had goals while Shayne Devine and Tyler Nickerson earned two assists. Colin Huskins was great in goal kicking out 30 of the 31 shots he faced.
On Saturday in Barrington the Sea Star boys took the series clincher with a 6-4 victory. Tied at three the Ice Dogs scored twice in the last minute of the second period and held off a late attack by the Lions for the win. Goulden and Devine each scored two with singles going to Andy Swim and Jamie Thomas. Dustin Goreham added two assists and Devine set up two. Huskins was sharp again stopping 28 shots in goal. Coach Dana McCarthy stated that the series win was a great team effort and his banged up squad will use this week to get ready for the Mariners. Games 3, 4 and 5 will be played in Barrington Friday, March 26 at 10 p.m., Saturday, March 27 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 28 at 5:30 p.m. The winner of this best of seven series will go on to represent Nova Scotia in the Maritime/Hockey North Jr. C Championship in Fredericton N.B. April 7-11.
