Young Shelburne writer Ben Holmes will be at The Osprey Arts Centre selling and signing his Shelburne Ghost Stories on Saturday, Feb. 13, from 7 to 8 p.m.
Ben is selling his book to raise money for Haitian relief.
Ben came to everyone’s attention after The Coast Guard published an article about his efforts. CBC’s Information Morning interviewed Ben on Wednesday, Feb. 3. He gave an intelligent and mature interview, which was picked up by a number of other CBC shows throughout the day.
Of course the phone at Ben’s home was ringing off the wall by the end of the day. Everyone was looking for a copy of Ben’s book that sells for $3 and is home made. Ben’s mother Lisa, who teaches at Hillcrest Academy, said she thought Ben’s speaking ability was fostered by his participation in 4H which has an excellent public speaking component.
Meeting Ben at The Osprey on Feb. 13 is a way of getting a copy of his book without making the phone at the Holmes household continue to ring. While at The Osprey you can purchase a special Valentine pink drink. The money for the drinks will be given to Ben to add to his Haiti fund.
At 8 p.m. the opening event of the Nautilus Series, The Bowties with Gordon Stobbe, will take the stage. For more information and to purchase tickets for the show, call 875-2359 and leave a message. Tickets will also be available at the door.
