River Hills’ Aaron Nickerson captured the 2012 MCT Mid-Amateur Championship at the Berwick Heights Golf Course on Sunday (June 24).
The Clark's Harbour native fired a two round total of 142 on his way to his second Provincial Mid-Amateur Championship. Nickerson finished strong when he birdied the 17th and 18th hole to beat his playing partner Glenn Robinson by one stroke.
Robinson (Ashburn) fired a two round total of 143 and secured the second spot on the 2012 Nova Scotia Mid-Amateur Team. Chris Topshee (Oakfield) and Steven Spicer (Brightwood) finished tied for third with a two day total of 144. Topshee secured the final team position after defeating Spicer in a one hole playoff.
Nickerson will lead Team Nova Scotia along with Glenn Robinson, Chris Topshee and alternate Steven Spicer to the 2012 Canadian Men's Mid-Amateur Championship at the Point Grey Golf and Country Club in Vancouver, B.C. on September 4 to 7.
Nickerson also won the mid-amateur championship in 2008, and has represented Nova Scotia at the nationals several times as team member.
Also competing at the 2012 MCT Mid-Amateur Championship from River Hills was Jody Swim, who finished tied for 7th place with a final score of 147. Swim is also a former Mid-Amateur champion, capturing the title in 2007.
Darrell Mackenzie was also in the field, finishing midway of the pack with 157.
