Shelburne County five pin bowlers MacKenzie Smith and Jessica Madden will be competing in the Youth Bowling Council’s national championships in St. Johns Newfoundland on May 4 to 8.
Both qualified after topping provincial competition in their respective divisions in February.
For Madden, who will be competing in the senior girls’ division, this will her fourth consecutive year qualifying for the national roll offs.
I’m looking for a medal this year,” said the 18 year old athlete from Port LaTour, who finished just out of the medal standings at last year’s competition.
This is the first time advancing to nationals for nine year old Smith, Shelburne, who competes in the Bantam girls’ division.
Both Madden and Smith, who bowl regularly at Swansburg Lanes in Shelburne, are looking forward to the meet.
“MacKenzie’s very excited,” said mom Tara. “She can’t wait to go.”
