It was a tough way to end a tournament for the host Shelburne Senior Boys Rebels on Sunday afternoon as they lost the championship game to Halifax Grammer by a 78-59 score.

The Rebel team was heavily favored to reach the provincial Division Three finals, but had not met the Halifax team on the court this year.

The gym was standing room only, with hundreds of rowdy, raucous hometown fans in attendance. The first half of the championship game was tight and went back and forth with the Halifax team leading 37 to 34 at the half.

Shelburne got into foul trouble early in the second half and the Halifax team capitalized quickly with free throws and three pointers.

The whole tournament ran smoothly with exception of the weather delay, and it was a tremendous success overall. This was Shelburne coach Steven Pippy’s final game coaching, having coached more than 900 high school basketball games with over 600 wins.

Shelburne scorers were (Kris Buchanan 18, Doug Poole 12, Steven Greig 12, Darren Deinstadt 11, Keithyon Shirley 5, Quinn Butler 2, and Matt Jacklyn 2)
