The Shelburne Arena has gotten a whole new look as an arms length list of upgrades have been completed.

While a new roof and cosmetic overhaul was completed a little over two years ago, the arena is now sporting a new ceiling and lights.

“All of the lights have been upgraded,” said Edgar Allison manager of the site.  “The ice nicely reflects the ice and brightens the whole place…she’s really looking nice now.”

He added that they are more energy efficient that will help keep electricity bills lowered.

The ancient electrical room was completely replaced with up to date equipment as well.

The $200,000 upgrades were made possible through grants by Nova Scotia Power and through government support by the provincial and federal departments.

The arena hosts a myriad of activities for the whole family including minor hockey, men’s hockey, ole timers hockey, pick up and figure skating.

There is also two public skates on Tuesdays from 4 to 5:00 p.m. and Sundays from 12 to 1:00 p.m. for $2 per person.

The space is rented out for private functions or birthday parties and there is a free preschool skate for kids five and under Thursdays at 10:00 a.m.

Allison said that the arena will hold more hockey tournaments throughout the season as well.
