Ice Dogs lose championship in overtime

The Barrington Sea Star Ice Dogs have relinguished their title of Provincial Champions to the Eastern Shore Mariners after falling 4 games to 3 in the NSJRCHL finals. The Mariners deadlocked the series at 3 with a 7-3 victory Sat. Apr. 3 at home. Tied a 2 goals apiece after the first the Mariners scored 3 goals in the second period and the Dogs could do little to get back in the game. James Swaine led the offence with 2 goals while Dustin Goreham had a single marker. Colin Huskins took the loss in goal.

   On Sun. Apr. 4 the Dogs rallied from a 3-0 second period defecit to take a 5-3 lead but eventually lost 6-5 in overtime in the series clincher. Jeff Goulden led the way with 2 goals while singles went to Shayne Devine, James Swaine and Dustin Goreham. Goreham also set up 4 goals and Devine had 2 assists. Huskins took the lost in goal. Coach McCarthy had nothing but praise for his squad and the loss was not for lack of effort and commended them all for having another great season. He also noted that this was the 6th time in the last 7 seasons that his club was either Provincial champion or finalist. On another note he thanked the many fans for their great support not only at home but on the road and said their devotion to his team is second to none.
