For the first time in the school’s history, Shelburne Regional High School is celebrating a senior girls Division III provincial championship.

The team won the championship Saturday night against arch foes Springhill in a 66-60 battle that saw the lead seesaw between the two teams.

Katie Locke led Rebel forwards with 28 points followed by Paula Christie who notched 15.

The provincial tournament was an exciting wrap up to a successful season for the Rebels. Throughout the tournament a Shelburne crowd cheered the local girls on enthusiastically.

“There must have been 100 people there rooting for us. The whole thing was great,” said Coach John Huskilson. “In the final game the amount of fan support we got was absolutely ridiculous. It was fantastic.”

The team accepted the provincial banner in memory of former coach Phil Callan, who died late last year.

Look for more coverage of the championship win in the print edition of the Coast Guard on Tuesday.
