Two Shelburne County residents were arrested on Feb. 1 after a search of a Sandy Point home turned up a quarter ounce of a substance believed to be crack cocaine and 35 ecstasy pills.
After the search, Curtis Kiley, 21, of Sandy Point was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking as well as possession of a prohibited weapon and breach of probation.
Latoya Hammond, 21, was also charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and released to appear on April 21 in Shelburne Court.
The search warrant was executed by the Shelburne County Street Crime Enforcement Unit with assistance from the local RCMP detachment.
Cpl. Nancy Mason, of the street crime unit, noted that Ecstasy, as is commonly known on the street, is listed as MDMA under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. It is a synthetic hallucinogen most commonly sold in tablet form.
“The pill form and coloring popularizes this substance as a recreational party drug, particularly amongst young people,” said Cpl. Mason.
