Although Shaun Hatfield posted a landslide victory in the Oct. 18 election, he was disqualified because he didn’t resign or take a leave of absence as chairman of the municipality’s continuing care steering committee prior to entering the election race.
Hatfield polled 381 ballots, compared to 157 for incumbent Larry Stewart and 69 for former councillor Wayne Smith.
The Supreme Court of Nova Scotia voided the election results shortly afterwards.
Hatfield resigned as chairman of the continuing care steering committee, but remains chair of the Bayside Home building committee, which is under the umbrella of the Bayside Home Corporation.
Advance poll dates are Feb. 21 and 24. Nomination day is Feb. 3. If only one candidate enters the race, they will be acclaimed and sworn into office at the Feb. 9 council session.
