The Barrington Fire Hall is up for sale. The department will be housed in a new building to replace the Barrington and Port La Tour fire halls.
New building being constructed will house Barrington/Port La Tour department
SHELBURNE – As construction of a new fire hall continues in Shelburne County, two old ones are for sale.
A new facility is being built on Villagedale Road in Barrington to house the Barrington/Port La Tour Volunteer Fire Department. The facility is expected to be ready sometime in May, says David Kendrick, fire services coordinator for the Municipality of Barrington.
He said last week the building was nearly finished.
"The building part itself will probably be done within a couple of weeks," Kendrick said.
Other required work on the property includes drilling a well, putting up a tower and some paving, he said.
Presently, the Barrington/Port La Tour department operates out of two separate facilities – the Barrington fire station and Port La Tour fire hall – both of which are for sale.
The Barrington and Port La Tour fire departments amalgamated about a year-and-a-half ago.
Interest has been expressed in both buildings, Kendrick said.
“We’ve probably had six or eight people call or stop in and get information,” he said.
The Barrington facility is the older of the two, having been built in the early 1970s, he said, while the one in Port La Tour is “probably 20 years old, and I’m guessing.”
The buildings are in pretty good shape, he said.
Sealed tenders will be received until April 1 at 2 p.m. at the Municipality of Barrington office.
As for the amalgamation of the Barrington and Port La Tour fire departments, Kendrick said, “So far it seems to be going really well.”
