Alleged arsonist held in jail

A 35-year-old Woods Harbour man who allegedly set fire to his home with his common-law wife inside will be staying in custody.

Jonathan Wade Smith, was denied bail following a hearing in Barrington provincial court last week.

Smith is now facing three charges in connection with the Jan. 18 incident, including one count of arson with disregard for human life, assault, and careless storage of firearm.

Smith’s next court appearance is April 2 in Barrington. A plea has not yet been entered in the case.
