Tenders on a $4.7-million retrofit for Clark’s Harbour Elementary School will be opened on Feb. 19.
Tri County Regional School Board Director of Operations Steve Stoddart says the tenders will be evaluated shortly after being opened by a team of school board officials. A decision could be made the same day.
The project to upgrade and renovate Clark's Harbour Elementary School to become a consolidated Primary to Grade 6 school will eventually see the closure of another nearby facility, the Cape Sable Island Elementary School.
The renovations and upgrades will see the school become home to all primary to Grade 6 students in the area.
Last week, the Town of Clarks Harbour tore down a house near the site in preparation for the eventual construction. The house and land was purchased by the Town to offer space for an elementary school playground.
Clarks Harbour Mayor Leigh Stoddart said he was excited to see plans for the school retrofit continuing on track.
The province will dole out money for the project in phases, which is expected to be completed for the 2014-15 school year.
The school board will manage the project in collaboration with the departments of Education and Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal.
About 200 students will attend the renovated school. Upgrades will include a new gymnasium.
