The Barrington RCMP are reminding people that the portion of the Barrington Bay Trail, which runs between Highway 3 at the Old School House and Highway 330 at No Frills is not open for use by motorized vehicles. This portion of the trail is open only to walkers and bicyclists. The trail is posted.
Walkers and cyclists, varying in age from toddlers to seniors expect they can walk safely on the trail, free of motorized vehicles. This portion of the trail, unlike the motorized portion of the trail is not as wide and therefore, the walking public is at a greater risk from passing vehicles.
In speaking with authorities of the Woodland Multi Use Trail Association, they are concerned about the operation of motorized vehicles on this portion of the trail. Because the trail is not open to motorized vehicles the Nova Scotia Integrated Trail Patrol does not patrol the trail for its usage.
Persons operating a motorized vehicle on this portion of the trail face penalties under the Off Vehicles Highway Act. Fines under this Act, typically range from $399.91 to $974.91. As well, operators face the seizure of their vehicles, particularly, if the vehicles are found not to be registered and insured.
