A low pressure system over the Great Lakes will move eastward to lie near New England on Saturday. Rain at times heavy ahead of the system is expected to begin late this afternoon over extreme southwestern Nova Scotia and spread northeastward this evening. Total rainfall amounts near 30 millimetres is expected by Saturday morning.

All of western Nova Scotia is under a rainfall warning as well as areas of the Eastern Shore and all of Cape Breton.

It should also be noted that a brief period of snow is possible for the Cobequid Pass area of Cumberland County late this evening before a changeover to rain near midnight.

The low pressure system will also bring strengthening southeast winds over the Maritimes tonight. Over Cape Breton southeast winds..Les Suetes..are expected to gust to near 100 km/h before dawn Saturday and to near 120 km/h Saturday morning.
