People across western Nova Scotia may hear the booms of fighter jets over the next few days as Royal Canadian Air Force CF-18 Hornet jets conduct training off Nova Scotia.

Military officials say exercises were scheduled from Tuesday, Nov 20 until Friday, Nov. 30, between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m.

The training will take place at various altitudes over water and most activity will not be visible to the public.  However, officials say people in the exercise area may hear and see the fighters flying in close proximity to a military or military-contracted aircraft, military air-to-air refuelling aircraft, and military ships.

As well, people may hear and see the fighters as they transit to and from their deployed operating base at 14 Wing Greenwood.

People in Queens and Shelburne counties reported seeing the jets roaring across the sky earlier this week.

Exercise Amalgam Dart is a Canadian Region (CANR) led NORAD exercise that deploys Canadian Forces assets to conduct air operations from other operating bases. The aircraft practice NORAD intercept and identification procedures used in the event of responding to a potential air threat, as well as air-to-air refuelling procedures. It also includes training with the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) to further enhance interoperability and effectiveness between the RCN and CANR.
