The initial phase of an engineering study of the Shelburne Marine Terminal is complete and the gates at the wharf have been reopened and public access to the facility has been restored.
Town officials say there may be additional brief closures required when commercial shipping arrives at the port or when some of the repairs recommended by the report are being made.
The engineering study confirmed that the dock will support the necessary loads and normal traffic can be permitted.
The second phase of this project, which will begin this spring, will include a concerted effort to attract new business and jobs to the Terminal and the town. In a release the Town of Shelburne noted aquaculture and fishing industries, the offshore oil support industry, container shipping lines, mega yacht shipping agents and cruise ships lines as opportunities that are being investigated.
We are hoping to make the Marine Terminal once again an active source of revenue for the Town and of jobs for our citizens.
Town residents have been going to and using the Wharf for years - Its part of our heritage - Wonder if it has anything to do with the up and coming Mayor race!! Still no word on the grant the Town was given for repairs!!!
