As people awoke Saturday morning Hurricane Earl was brushing Shelburne County with bristles of high winds and heavy rains.
The weakening minimal hurricane turned out to be not the fearsome storm people had feared as its centre stayed offshore.

What the hurricane did bring were temporary power outages across some areas of county and spectacular waves along the coastline.
Local officials were ready for the worst, but were pleased the storm was not worse.
“We had winds here of 35 knots,” said Max Kenney, of the Harbour Authority of Clarks Harbour. “We were fine,” he said, noting though that the sea state outside the harbour was more than rough.
