A firestorm of criticism over the use of the Conservative Party logo on a novelty “super-sized” cheque used for a photo opportunity has led to an apology being issued by
South Shore-St. Margarets MP Gerald Keddy.
On Sept. 19, the MP held a photo opportunity with representatives in Lunenburg County from Church Memorial Park to highlight $302,000 of federal funding for the Eleanor Pew Morris Memorial Rink.
During that event Keddy used a cheque that had the Conservative Party of Canada logo printed on it by his office.
“I recognize that this was inappropriate. This was an unfortunate mistake that certainly will not happen again,” said Keddy.
Keddy has been called to task on the issue by opposition parties, who have called the gaff a flagrant breach of the rules.
The MP noted that the cheque was one small part of a larger event celebrating the outstanding achievements of the Board of Directors of Church Memorial Park in Chester.
“Investments in recreational infrastructure are an investment in our future. Funding such as this helps to provide improved recreational facilities for the benefit of future generations,” said Keddy.
