It was a feast for the soul at the International Women’s Fair, hosted by the Barrington Municipal High School last Friday night.

Organized by the Shelburne County Women’s Fishnet (SCWF), at least 100 people attended the celebration of local female talent which showcased students, artisans and musicians of all ages from across the county.

The International Women’s Fair has grown from a concert at the Crescent Beach Centre in Lockeport in 2004 that was organized to highlight women supporting women and their families.

“The concert was a great success and many of the singers brought out songs that they had written themselves,” said Embree. “Some of these songs had never been sung in public.  Women had just written songs and tucked them away.”

From there the event grew to become an annual celebration of International Women’s Day, and through the efforts of the SCWF, branched out to create the annual Harmony Bazaar Festival of Women and Song, which is growing in popularity every year.

“Our goal is to take the celebration around to various communities,” said Embree. “We were welcomed so warmly in Barrington this year. The high school and the families came out with all their warmth and all their talents.”
