Row for Nanny’s Cure tops $10,000

More than $10,000 was raised for the Rosalin Nickerson CARE Fund during the third annual Row for Nanny’s Cure on July 14.

“We are overwhelmed with the amount that we have collected this year,” said organizer Bethany Nickerson. “The community has really supported this event and the funds continue to grow each year.”

With brightly coloured bras decorating the Cape Sable Island Causeway, dory rowing teams challenged each other on the half mile course, with everyone from juniors to seniors taking a turn at the oars.

In total $10,379.89 was raised the day of the races, said Nickerson, adding organizers will be continuing their fundraising efforts throughout the summer selling tickets on a lobster pot chair or trap. They will also be auctioning off a folk art painting during the Rosalin Nickerson CARE Fund’s Walk for a Cause in September.

Nickerson extended special thanks to the committee members, volunteers, rowers and their sponsors, the community, and all who donated prizes and supplies to this year's race.  “It’s a team effort that makes this race happen each year and without each member we would not be able to put on this event,” she said.
