Playwright-poet Natalie Meisner.

On Saturday, Feb. 4 at 8 p.m., The Osprey Arts Centre will present The Art of The Monologue: Selections from the plays of the last ten years by Natalie Meisner.

Selected staged readings of selections from Meisner's works will be read by local Shelburne County actors and followed by a question and answer session with the author on the art of the monologue, voice and character in stage play writing.

Local actors will include Alison Stanton, Lorraine Chapman, Shelby Kelley, Karl White, Alex Buchanan, Rebecca Tudor, Peter Healy, Kay Daly, Eliza Hyde, and Ed Trevors.

Natalie Meisner is a playwright and poet from Nova Scotia. She graduated from Shelburne High and spends time in Lockeport.  Her plays have been produced nationwide. She won the Canadian National Playwriting Award, the Jessie Richardson Theatre Award, and she’s been shortlisted for the Herman Voaden award.

Meisner served as editor of both PRISM International and Dandelion magazines. Her own publications include Growing Up Salty & Other Plays – published by Shelburne County’s own Roseway Publishing. Her work has also in several anthologies such as The Yale Journal of Criticism, Lady Driven: More Writing By the Seven Sisters, Love Poems for the Media Age, and Coming of Age In Canada.

Meisner is also a poet. Her poems have been featured in Grain magazine, The Nashwak Review, Pottersfield Portfolio, The Antigonish Review, CV2, and Room of One’s Own.

The Art of The Monologue will take place on Saturday, January 28th at 8pm. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for students and will be available to purchase online at www.ospreyartscentre.com . Tickets are also available on a first come, first served basis by leaving a phone message at 875-2359 or emailing ospreyartscentre@eastlink.ca. Tickets will also be for sale at the door on the evening of the performance.

To celebrate the new season and offer those who’ve never been to the Osprey before a chance to see what all the excitement is about, the Osprey is offering $5 tickets to this show for first-time customers.
