Local Shelburne bluesman Bob Vacon will release his debut, full-length CD of soulful, fingerstyle blues at the Osprey Arts Centre on Nov. 12 at 8 p.m.
Over the past seven years, Vacon has gained recognition in Shelburne County for his intricate acoustic guitar style, his powerful singing voice and his passion for Piedmont fingerstyle blues mixed with music straight from the Mississippi Delta of the 1920s.
The CD release party will feature Vacon performing solo as well as with special guests including Robbie Smith, Alex Buchanan, Allan Crosby, Chett Buchanan, Merrie Howe and Lisa Buchanan stepping onstage throughout the show.
His debut CD titled "Can't Hold Back" was recorded in Shelburne at HarbourTone Productions and features some of Vacon's best loved songs as well as some new selections that showcase his ability to evoke emotion. The recording benefits from Vacon’s characteristic attention to detail. Recorded by Alex Buchanan, this will be HarbourTone Production's first CD release concert with many more on the way.
"For me, recording was a steep learning curve," says Vacon, "but the learning experience led to new discoveries in my performance style. I've been looking forward to doing this for a very long time after many years of live performance and practice. I'm thrilled with the results."
Bob Vacon performs at the Osprey Arts Centre on Nov. 12 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15, $5 for students. They are available at the Whirligig Book Shop, 875-1117 Tuesdays - Saturdays, and at the door. CDs will be for sale during the show.
