On Saturday, Oct. 24, Shelly MacIntosh will present her show, Down From The Attic, at the Osprey Arts Centre.

Natalie Lynn, Shelly’s daughter, will open the show for her mother. Her emotion filled lyrics and accomplished guitar playing will set the stage for an evening of great variety.

Music has always been a large part of Shelly MacIntosh’s life. Her father, Louis Buchanan was a Maritime Fiddling Champion who sang and played many instruments. He trained Shelly and her four sisters to sing together in harmony from as early on as she can remember. They performed together with Molly on guitar and Bonnie on mandolin as the ‘Buchanan Sisters’ in church services and gatherings.

Shelly began strumming the guitar in her teens, and writing and singing folk songs. She started singing with friends and joined several bands over the years. She has performed for local charities, and fundraisers, weddings and social gatherings. As life became busy with raising a family and working full time, she continued her love of music by passing it on to her children Luke and Natalie Lynn. She also incorporates music into her daily work with school children and takes every opportunity to bring music to them whenever possible. “Part of the joy of music is sharing it with people around you,” she says. “It creates a wonderful bond and touches us deep in our souls. I listen to a wide variety of music and like to sing many styles of songs. Most of all, I like to write and sing songs from the heart.”

In Down from the Attic, Shelly will perform with family and friends, and will highlight group performances ranging in style from heartfelt ballads to rhythm and blues.

Shelly will be joined by her sisters, Bonnie Buchanan-Kenney and Molly Smith. Local artist, Jennifer Bell will appear after her long absence from the stage with accomplished musician Matt Muise. Shelly and local bluesman, Bob Vacon, will team up, with his fine style of guitar playing and great voice. Newbee Ian Anderson will also team up with Shelly. Anthony Gosbee on guitar, Chett Buchanan on bass and vocals, and Ed Benham on drums will back Shelly up. Merrie Howe and Lisa Buchanan will be harmonizing on several numbers. And Andy Blackmer will make his debut on the trombone.

Down From the Attic will take place on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15, $5 for youth. They are available at The Whirligig Bookshop, 875 1117 or at the door. Reserve your table early for a good seat.
