There are almost 200 fewer students enrolled in Shelburne County schools for the 2008/09 year compared to figures from two years ago.
According to the Sept. 30, 2008 enrolment figures, there are 2,192 students attending Shelburne County schools this year, compared to 2,304 for the 2007/08 school year, and 2,389 in 2006/07, a decline of 112 students from last year and 197 students from 2006/07.
With 65 fewer students than in 2006/07, the Shelburne Regional High School has suffered the biggest decline in the past two years. The Barrington Municipal High School has 35 fewer students this year than in 2006/07.
The elementary schools are also not immune to declining enrolment. Hillcrest Academy in Shelburne has 29 fewer students this year than it did in the 2006/07 school year, while Forest Ridge Academy has lost 20 students in the same time period.
Across the Tri-County Regional School Board enrolment figures show a total decline of 529 students in the past two years- from 7,954 students in 2006/07, to 7,425 in 2008/09.
