The Barrington RCMP detachment is reminding people to exercise caution when asked to provide personal information over the phone.

The detachment recently received a complaint from a local car dealership regarding a possible scam during which the business’s customers were called by an unknown party and warned that their vehicle’s warranties were about to expire.

The car owners were then asked if they wanted to buy more protection. Three phone numbers were reported in association with these calls: 732-526-0150, 203-682-6771, and 203-638-1172.

A call made to any of these numbers will result in a message during which callers are asked to push a number on their telephone keypad to be removed from a calling list.

The genuine nature of these calls has not been determined and, at this point, no crime has been committed. The RCMP however, caution against providing any personal information over the phone.
