Roseway Manor has gotten new wheels, thanks to a generous donation from the Roseway Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, fundraising efforts by staff and volunteers, and the support of the Community Business Development Corporation (CBDC).
The campaign in support of the new van was started about a year ago. A $10,000 donation from the ladies auxiliary really boosted the campaign, said Sharon Callan, Roseway Manor administrator.
The manor was able to finance the vehicle over five years with a low interest loan from the CBDC.
“We’ll be fundraising to help cover the loan payments,” said Callan.
The van conforms to the highest safety standards, enabling the manor to transport mobility challenged patients of all ages, even children. It will accommodate up to five wheelchairs or 10 passengers, or any combination in between.
“We want this vehicle to meet the safety standards for years to come,” said Callan.
Besides providing transportation for manor residents, plans are to provide transportation to mobility challenged clients in the community who take part in Roseway Manor’s leisure time and support services program.
“Once we hire a driver we will have regularly scheduled bus route for our adult day care program,” said Callan.
Callan said the initiative is being supported by South West District Health, who is providing funding for a driver and vehicle maintenance.
