A mobile home in Shag Harbour was heavily damaged by fire on Thursday, June 11.

No one was home when the fire broke out. Fire fighters from the Shag Harbour/Bear Point Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the scene at 10:30 a.m. “When we arrived on the scene there was fire coming from the door and windows,” said fire fighter Jason Shand. “We had it knocked down within 15 minutes.

The Woods Harbour Volunteer Fire Department assisted in battling the blaze. The RCMP and fire marshall also attended the scene.

Shag Harbour fire chief Ricky Banks said the trailer sustained heavy damage in the kitchen and living room area and smoke damage throughout.

Banks added the fire marshall concluded the cause of the fire was a burning cigarette in the coach.

The mobile home was a rental unit. Neither Shand nor Banks knew who was residing in the trailer.
