The Town of Shelburne is hoping that a new gas station will help to draw travelers off the highway and into the town.

There is construction currently underway to develop a Needs Convenience and gas bar just off the highway at exit 26, directly across from the Tim Horton’s.

Dylan Heide, chief administrative officer for the town, said that the town is pleased to see the increase of development in Shelburne.

“If we can make it clear that this is the stop to make between Bridgewater and Yarmouth then they might just come in to the rest of the town,” he said.

“The first obvious step is to get people in and off the highway.”

He said that for some motorists it’s hard to even see that a town is there not to mention what it offers for visitors.

While no concrete plans are in place, the town is already thinking of ways to promote the town.  Possible investigations into providing visitors with information and what delivery would be best have been discussed.

“We are exploring how we see Exit 26 as a vital piece of economic development and the primary gateway for the town,” said Heide.

Needs Convenience logo and trademark are owned by Sobey’s.
