Alex Buchanan has come a long way from recording music in his basement.
“I have been experimenting with music my whole life,” said Buchanan.
Always interested in music, Buchanan decided to focus his love into a career and studied at the Recording Arts program at the NSCC Waterfront Campus in Dartmouth.
Once he learned the ins and outs of the trade, he has worked to transform his studio on 125 Water Street in Shelburne into an acoustically designed space for optimal sound when recording.
“There is a lot of local talent here and the closest recording studio is in Liverpool,” said Buchanan. “I’m not sure how far it will go, we will have to see what happens.”
The HarourTone Productions studio holds a control room where Buchanan, using professional grade equipment to keep up with international industry standards, records and perfects while the artists are in an acoustically treated isolation room.
Definitely not a home studio in a bedroom, said Buchanan.
Already Buchanan has clients beginning to line up to get their music radio ready.
HarbourTone Productions offers fully produced recordings, demo recordings, music promotion, on location and live recordings and spoken word recordings which can include interviews, political events, book readings, poetry and live concert recordings.
He also has plans to encourage young people in the high schools to form bands and create new music.
He will be kicking off the opening of HarbourTone Productions by holding a two-day open house on Feb 11 and 12 between 9a.m. and 9 p.m.
“Come and check out the place,” said Buchanan. “Bring an instrument and see what the place can offer.”
