As many as 40 new jobs could be on the line at a career fair this Thursday (Jan. 27) being held to find employees to staff Bayside Home once the expansion to the long term care facility is completed this spring.

Full-time, part-time and casual positions are being offered for CCAs and nursing staff, as well as laundry, food services and maintenance staff.

“This is exciting for the community,” said Donna LeBlanc-Messenger, Deputy Warden for the Municipality of Barrington in an interview. “The fairy tale is coming to life.”

The career fair is being at the Barrington Passage Sobeys from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Applicants are asked to bring a resume as well as three professional/work references, and be prepared for an interview.

Deputy Warden Messenger, who chairs the Bayside Home Committee, said the committee is hoping for a late April, early May opening.

“It’s exciting,” she said. “It’s a beautiful place. For so long it was just a dream and now it’s real.”

The estimated $16 million project will triple the capacity of the long term nursing care faculty from 22 to 62 beds.

The expansion includes the construction of two wings, each with the capacity of housing a total of 20 patients in two wards, as well as the construction of a central section that will link the new with the old and will feature a large community room as well as administrative offices and kitchen facilities.
