The power of the sun will soon be on demonstration in Shelburne.
The town has been chosen as one of two sites across the province to host a Nova Scotia Power solar thermal energy community pilot program.
The program will see the power company fund a demonstration solar project at Heritage Hall in Shelburne to support the development of the next generation of solar installers and the marketing of solar hot water systems.
David MacLaughlin, NSP Renewable Program Manager, noted that Shelburne was selected for a number of reasons, including the nearby presence of an NSCC Campus, support from the community and a perceived need for economic development in the area.
In a letter to the Town, MacLaughlin described the project as an opportunity to illustrate how solar energy technology can enhance the efficiency of properties in a historic community.
Mayor Alan Delaney said the project was a wonderful opportunity for the Town.
“It’s a real first positive step,” he said. “Solar and renewable energy is our future.”
The pilot project expected to begin in November.
