Annual Christmas parade on Saturday
By Kathy Johnson THE COAST GUARD NovaNewsNow.com The spirit of Christmas will be alive in more ways than one when Shelburne’s annual Christmas Parade is held this Saturday. Besides the floats, decorations, costumes and music, which are sure to spark the Christmas spirit, local youth from Our House Youth Wellness Centre will be collecting non-perishable food items along the parade route in support of the Loyalist Food Bank. “It’s a way for the kids to give back to the community,” said Our House spokesperson Amy MacKinnon. As for the parade, it gets underway at 2 p.m. starting from Minto Street and making its way to the Shelburne Mall on King Street. Individuals, organizations and businesses are encouraged to participate in the event by entering a float or walking entry. Plaques will be awarded in six categories: best decorated, best overall, most creative, children 8 years old and over, children 7 years and younger accompanied by an adult, and special mention. No pre-registration is required. Parade entries will begin lining up between 1:15 and 1:30 p.m. Anyone wanting more information can contact Barb Falk at 875-3741.
